Mr Mao Zhirong is Managing Director, Head of Mainland Development and a member of Management Committee of Hong Kong Exchanges & Clearing Ltd. (HKEX). He is also Chief Executive & Director of China Exchanges Services Company Limited and Director of Bond Connect Company Limited.

Mr Mao is devoted to promoting the development of mutual market programs between Mainland and Hong Kong. He led the team in rolling out connectivity programs such as SH-HK Stock Connect (2014), SZ-HK Stock Connect (2016) and Bond Connect (2017) etc.

Prior to joining HKEX, Mr Mao served as Director of Strategy and International Affairs, Director of Financial Innovation Lab and Head of Derivative Product Task Force at Shenzhen Stock Exchange. Mr Mao also worked at a top 500 U.S. insurance company for years where he held a variety of positions across functions including information technology, product development and risk management.

Mr Mao holds Doctor of Philosophy (International Affairs) and Master of Arts (Economics) from University of California, San Diego, US and Bachelor of Arts (Economics) from Fudan University, China.
