Mr Rimsky Yuen SC has been a barrister since 1987. He was appointed Senior Counsel in 2003. He specialized in commercial disputes including corporate disputes, insolvency, as well as banking and financial products disputes. In addition to acting as advocate in court and other legal proceedings, Mr Yuen acted as arbitrator in international arbitration and as mediator in commercial disputes. Further, apart from being the Chairman of the Hong Kong Bar Association from 2007 to 2009, Mr Yuen was a Recorder of the Court of First Instance of the High Court during the period from 2006 to 2012.
From 1 July 2012 to 5 January 2018, Mr Yuen was the Secretary for Justice of the Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR). As Secretary for Justice, he was the chief legal adviser to the HKSAR Government and was responsible for, among others, the promotion of arbitration and mediation.
On 5 January 2018, Mr Yuen resigned as Secretary for Justice and thereafter resumed private practice as barrister, arbitrator and mediator in April 2018. Mr Yuen was also recently appointed as a member of the International Commercial Expert Committee of the Supreme People’s Court of the People’s Republic of China.
